Registering Your First Asset

With a workspace initialized, you can begin registering inventory. In Computtite, physical equipment and hardware units are categorized into Asset Types — where each type defines a schema of custom attributes, validations, and display formatters. Software licenses are managed separately through the dedicated Licenses registry (/workspace/activos/licenses).

Understanding Asset Types and Schema Fields

An asset type (e.g., “Laptops”, “Network Switches”) defines the data contract for that hardware class. Attributes support distinct data types (text, integer, decimal, boolean, timestamp, single/multi-select, IPv4/IPv6, MAC address, currency), optional format validations, and presentation rules.

For example, the standard Laptops type from the IT Infrastructure template specifies:

  • name: Unique device identifier (required).
  • brand and model: Hardware manufacturing specifications.
  • serial_number: Device hardware serial, validated for uniqueness.
  • operating_system, cpu, ram_gb, storage_capacity.
  • ip_address and mac_address: Network interface attributes with format validation.
  • purchase_date and warranty_expiration: Temporal tracking points.
  • Computed expressions such as days_until(warranty_expiration) and years_since(purchase_date).

Registering a Hardware Asset

  1. Navigate to the Assets section in the navigation sidebar (/workspace/activos).
  2. Select the target asset type (e.g., Laptops) from the header selector or sidebar sub-item.
  3. Select Register asset (or invoke the global keyboard shortcut).
  4. Populate required schema fields. Optional fields can be completed during subsequent lifecycle transitions.
  5. If directory personnel exist, the item can be assigned immediately during creation.
  6. Optionally attach an identification photograph; images are stored in {appDataDir}/media/{workspaceId}/ or the cloud storage bucket.
  7. Confirm creation. The record commits to the local SQLite database and queues a synchronization payload in Cloud Mode.

Assigning Equipment Custody

Asset custody links a hardware unit to an employee record in the organizational directory:

  1. Open the asset record detail view.
  2. Select Assign in the custody panel.
  3. Designate the target employee from the directory selector (personnel records are maintained under /workspace/employees).
  4. Optionally record handover metadata or check-out notes.
  5. Confirm. Computtite commits the assignment with a chronological timestamp, logs the event to the audit trail, and updates the assignee’s active asset count.

When equipment is returned to inventory, select Return asset to terminate active custody. Historical custody records remain permanently queryable in the asset’s audit ledger.

Operational Status States

Each asset carries a textual status descriptor indicating its current operational posture (e.g., active, in_storage, maintenance, decommissioned, repair). Health diagnostics and reporting engines aggregate assets by status to surface maintenance backlogs and unassigned equipment pools.
