Local Mode
Local mode is Computtite’s zero-dependency, maximum-privacy deployment option. Your workspace data never leaves your machine. A Computtite account is still required to use the app, but no internet connection is needed after installation, and there is no telemetry exfiltration in local mode. It is the right choice for solo operators, privacy-conscious organizations, air-gapped environments, or any situation where data sovereignty is non-negotiable.
Where Your Data Lives
In Local Mode, Computtite maintains strict workspace isolation. Each workspace is stored as an independent SQLite database file inside the application data directory:
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/com.sxnnyside.computtite/workspaces/{workspaceId}.db - Windows:
C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\com.sxnnyside.computtite\workspaces\{workspaceId}.db - Linux:
~/.config/com.sxnnyside.computtite/workspaces/{workspaceId}.db
Automated verified backups are archived in backups/{workspaceId}/, and media attachments are isolated in media/{workspaceId}/. You can open the containing directory directly from Settings → Storage → Show in file manager.
Data Portability & Sovereignty
You retain complete, sovereign ownership of your data:
- Back it up: Export a validated
.dbsnapshot on demand or configure automatic daily/weekly verified backups in Settings → Storage. - Migrate to Cloud: When your team grows, convert your local workspace to a Cloud Mode workspace with one click using the built-in migration wizard in Settings → Storage.
- Move it: Transfer the exported SQLite database to another machine and load it via Settings → Storage → Import database.
- Permanent Removal: Deleting a local workspace permanently erases its
.dbfile and backups from your disk with zero trace on any remote server.
Data Protection
Computtite verifies the integrity of your local database on every startup. If corruption is detected (caused by disk errors, abrupt power loss, or file system issues), the app enters a safe mode: edits are locked, and you are presented with a recovery interface that lets you import a clean backup without risking further data loss. The app will never silently operate on a damaged database.
What is Not Available in Local Mode
Because local mode has no server, the following features require Cloud mode:
- Multi-user collaboration and member invitations
- Role-based access control and permission profiles
- Asset visibility restrictions
- Google Sheets and Notion integrations
All other features — asset management, Forge schema editor, employees, departments, reports, CSV/Excel/PDF export, automated backups, and update checks — work fully in local mode.
