Storage & Backups

Computtite gives you direct control over your workspace infrastructure. Manage storage, integrity checks, and recovery workflows from Settings → Storage (/workspace/settings/storage).

Local Mode vs. Cloud Mode Storage

Storage architecture depends on your active workspace mode:

  • Local Mode: SQLite is the sole, authoritative source of truth. Your workspace database is stored on-device at {appDataDir}/workspaces/{workspaceId}.db. Automatic scheduled backups, retention pruning, and recovery dialogs operate directly on these files.
  • Cloud Mode: Supabase is the authoritative source of truth. A local SQLite database acts as a local read cache and an offline write queue (sync_operations). Cloud workspaces also provide a Cloud Offline Package feature in Settings → Storage, allowing you to download a complete offline SQLite snapshot for external analysis or compliance archives.

Showing Files in Your File Manager

To inspect your workspace file or open its containing directory, navigate to Settings → Storage and click Show in file manager. Computtite opens the exact workspace directory in Finder (macOS), Explorer (Windows), or your native file manager (Linux).

Automatic Scheduled Backups (Local Mode)

In Local Mode, Computtite can automatically back up your workspace on a regular schedule. Configure it in Settings → Storage:

  • Schedule: Choose between Disabled, Daily, or Weekly. Backups execute asynchronously without blocking your workflow.
  • Retention: Retain the most recent 5, 10, or 20 backups. Older files are automatically pruned to prevent uncontrolled disk usage.

Every automated backup is verified using PRAGMA integrity_check via a dedicated database adapter before it is saved. If an integrity failure is detected, the corrupt copy is discarded immediately, ensuring you never restore from a defective file.

Manual Backups and Database Export

  • Create Backup: Click Back Up Now in Settings → Storage to generate an immediate verified backup.
  • Export Database: Owners and Local Mode operators can export an exact copy of the SQLite database to any directory or external storage volume.
  • Import Database: Restore an existing database file. Computtite creates a safety snapshot of the active workspace before applying any import.

Safety Snapshots & Restores

When restoring from a backup in Settings → Storage, Computtite creates a safety snapshot (computtite_YYYY-MM-DD_HHmmss_snapshot.db) immediately prior to overwriting the database. If an unexpected power disruption occurs during restore, your prior state remains preserved in the backups folder.

Startup Corruption Recovery

On startup, Computtite runs an automated integrity verification (PRAGMA integrity_check) on the active workspace. If physical database corruption is detected (such as from hard power cuts or drive failures), Computtite immediately halts execution and presents CorruptionRecoveryDialog as a full-screen blocking overlay. You can restore from a known-good backup with one click or reveal the backup folder to perform manual forensics.
